Sima Fabricant is a painter based in Oakland, California. She attained a BFA at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2025. Through abstraction, her paintings explore ideas of perception, embodiment, and play. She draws inspiration from somatics, dance, meditation, and everyday mundane experiences in both domestic and urban life. Her process leans heavily on improvisation; each layer of paint becomes an intuitive reaction to the last. There is a musical influence in the work that she channels through the formal qualities of painting, including colour relationships, use of pattern, texture, and form. While experimenting with dichotomies of flatness and depth, movement and stillness, gesture and shape, she builds up layers of paint to create complex and dynamic compositions.
